Our Story

CONTINUING A TRADITION

In 1909 Thomas Fotheringham established a service to the community that would continue for the next 10 decades. In the beginning he sold furniture along with providing a funeral parlor. At that time, a horse drawn hearse carried the casket and, as was the custom, even the black horses were covered with a black netting and black leather harnesses. In 1932 the original business was destroyed by fire and was relocated to its present location on 2nd avenue. David Fotheringham took over the family business with the death of his father in 1938 and continued running it until 1965 when he sold the business to J.R. (Randy ) Chambers. In 1983 Earl Mosewich joined his uncle Randy in the profession and during the late eighties the Chapel was added when the Masons decided to close the Lodge next door. Over the years several neighbouring funeral homes were joined and the firm grew to include among others; Young’s Funeral Home in Viscount and then McDougall’s Funeral Home in Nokomis. In 1991 Randy retired from funeral service and sold the balance to Earl and Marianne Mosewich. Licensed embalmers and directors, Jody Lewis, Bob Lee, and Louella Gieselman have assisted families over those years and currently Allan Mosewich and David Somers are on staff along with Earl and Marianne.
