Obituary for George Squires

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of George Douglas Squires of Foothills, Alberta on January 19, 2023.
George passed away peacefully at the age of 82 in his beautiful home in the foothills, surrounded by his girls and his faithful hunting dog, Mitch.
Born in Macklin, Saskatchewan on March 8, 1940, George spent his formative years causing trouble in Watrous, Saskatchewan. It was there, in Grade 1, where he met the love of his life, Marlene and his love of dogs….Mitch the 1st.
A proud graduate and alumnus of University of Saskatchewan Engineering, after completing his Masters in Engineering Physics, George headed to Ottawa to what was then Northern Electric’s research and development labs. In 1990 George moved to Calgary to head up a wireless research lab joint project between Nortel, University of Calgary, University of Alberta, the federal and provincial governments and many, many industry partners. TR Labs was instrumental in supporting and developing grad students working on countless telecommunications research projects improving Canada’s international competitiveness.
George is predeceased by his parents Anne and Doug Squires, in-laws Monica and Albert Dahl, and brother Bill Squires.
Survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Marlene (nee Dahl), daughters Marci, Sandra (John MacKenzie), and Gina, granddaughters Kara and Brooke, sisters Dianne (Paul) Yard, and Pat Squires George will be missed for his brilliant knowledge, generosity, and unique sense of humour.
A Memorial Service will be held at All Saint’s Anglican Church, Watrous, Saskatchewan on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Watrous Cemetery.
