Obituary for Alice Mooney

Alice Loretta Mooney (Popp) passed away peacefully on February 24, 2023 at the Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility in Imperial surrounded by her girls.

Alice was born in Melville on March 1, 1931. Her family moved to Watrous when she was two. She completed her schooling in Watrous and worked as a bookkeeper until her marriage to Gordon Mooney which took her to the farm ten miles west of Imperial. Life on the farm was a challenge that she met head on. They lived on the farm until 1979 when they moved to their new home in Imperial. During these years Mom was involved in United Church activities; preparing the Sunday bulletin for many years, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and helping wherever needed. Mom was also an active member of the community; she was involved with the local Saskatchewan Housing Authority, she canvassed for Combined Appeal, participated in organizing community celebrations and sang in both the Eastern Star and Harmony Suite Choirs.

Winter would find Mom at the rink curling in both league play and bonspiels. Summers were spent camping, golfing and at many beaches. Mom and Dad travelled many miles to attend the activities of both their children and grandchildren.

Family, entertaining and socializing were always front and foremost for both Mom and Dad. On a Saturday in the summer you would find them at Danceland with friends enjoying the music and dancing the night away. In later years when Dad was playing for the dances, Mom was still there enjoying the music and visiting with friends. Mom was the ultimate hostess, whether it be family celebrations, hockey parties or happy hour patio parties, she always ensured there was plenty of food and drink and enjoyed every minute of it.

Out of necessity, Mom moved into the LLVIF in April of 2021 and while this transition wasn’t easy, she soldiered on and made the best of it, always offering a smile to residents and staff. Mom’s wit and sassy attitude kept the staff on their toes! She continued to take great pride in her everyday appearance as fashion, make-up and jewellery were always a passion.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2007, son Gary in 2021 and brother-in-law Lloyd Stein in 2006. She will lovingly be remembered by her sister, Lillian Stein; daughter, Bonnie (Howie), Christopher (Shelly), Jason (Heather) and their children Abigail and Brayden, Andrea (Leon) and her son Cole; daughter-in-law Rhonda, Jennifer (Mike), and her daughter Alexa, Kyle, Brett (Eden) and their son Kamden; daughter, Maureen (Linda); daughter Alison (Shaun), Krista, David (Neena) and their children Layla and Everleigh and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

For those so wishing, donations may be made to the LLVIF Activities Department, Box 180, Imperial, Saskatchewan, S0G 2J0 or LLVIF Auxiliary, Box 114, Imperial Saskatchewan, S0G 2J0.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Imperial Community Centre, Imperial, SK on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jack Robson officiating. Alice would be pleased to have you wear some "bling" to the service. Private Family Interment in Imperial Cemetery. A Memorial Reception will follow for friends and family.
