Obituary for Linda Smith

SMITH: Linda G. (nee REID)
September 10, 1948 – February 2, 2023
Linda Gladys Smith (nee Reid) of Nokomis, Saskatchewan passed away on February 2, 2023 at the Nokomis Health Centre.
Linda was 74 years of age and predeceased by her mother and father, sister Joan Giesbrecht (Reid) and brother-in-law Ray Parkin.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Elwood and her son Jeremy (Jennifer) of Moose Jaw and two grandchildren, Conor (14) and Brenon (11). Linda will be missed by her siblings Carol (Jim) Andrews, Bill (Raylene) Reid, Nancy Reid, Lesley Parkin, Jackie (Kelly) Laurans, brother-in-law Tedd Giesbrecht, as well as many nieces and nephews, and friends.
Linda was born September 10, 1948 in Nokomis to George Darwin and Elizabeth Mina (Neely) Reid of Govan. Linda attended school in Govan, then moved to Regina where she attended The Reliance College of Business.
On December 17, 1966 Elwood and Linda were married. After completing her course, Linda and Elwood moved back to the Smith family farm and Linda began her 31-year career with Nokomis Credit Union, retiring in 1998. Linda was an active member of the Nokomis United Church serving as treasurer for many years.
Linda and Elwood welcomed their only child, Jeremy, into the world in 1974. When she wasn’t working at the Credit Union or at her second job on the farm, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking (well known in the family for her monster cookies and in the community for her buns!). She also enjoyed spending her free time curling, golfing, entering items at the fair, quilting, and spending time with friends and family.
Many family events were hosted at the farm for both sides of the family. Linda and Elwood named the farm Linwood Angus and raised purebred black Angus cattle until 2011. They were regulars at Agribtion, showing for close to 30 years.
She enjoyed accompanying Elwood on many fishing trips from La Ronge to Last Mountain Lake and many places in between…working her way through many a cheesy romance novel while Elwood fished.
Linda was a huge Blue Jays fan and travelled to Seattle and Toronto to games in their retirement years. Their most recent bucket list trip (even though they didn’t know it until they got there) was snowmobiling in the mountains with her son’s family in February 2022.
A Memorial Service will be held at Nokomis Centennial Hall, Nokomis, Saskatchewan on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. A Family Interment will take place in Nokomis Cemetery.
