Obituary for Claire Kowalyshyn

KOWALYSHYN, Claire Clemence
May 14, 1926 – January 30, 2023

Claire was born on May 14, 1926 to Bruno and Bertha Godin on the family farm near Domremy, SK. She attended Golden Rod School and completed her education by correspondence, then attended school in Prince Albert and Teacher’s College in Saskatoon. She began teaching at the age of 17 and taught for 18 years in various communities.

Mom married Michael Kowalyshyn on August 3, 1948. They lived in various communities in Saskatchewan as well as in Toronto for a short time where Mike worked for Texaco and Mom worked for the Department of Highways.

When they returned to Saskatchewan, Dad became a grain buyer for the Pool. They lived in many small towns including Leross, Jasmin, Tate, Jansen and Young. They retired in Young, where they enjoyed small community life. Mom’s pride and joy was her enormous flower garden and Dad spent many hours repairing motors in his garage.

Claire was predeceased by her parents, Bruno and Bertha Godin, husband Michael, sister Armande, Sister Marie (in infancy), brother Raymond, daughter Louise Ireland and grandson Cory. She is survived by her brother Lawrence (Luisa) Godin of Saskatoon, sister Helen (Gene) Dizy of Sidney, BC, brother Rene (Irene) Godin of Calgary, AB, daughter Dorothy (Kelvin) Smale of Lanigan, SK, daughter Grace (Gerald) Whitehead of Kelvington as well as granddaughter Angela (Chad) Pighin and their children Dylan and Porter of Water Valley, AB, granddaughter Christine (rick) Blyth and their children Evan, Jake and Bryce of Wynyard, SK, and granddaughter Laurie Ireland (Derek Meyers) of Regina and their children Dayne, Sebastian and Eisley.

We are eternally gratefully for the loving care provided to Mom by all of the staff at Central Parkland Lodge. While she was able, she loved all of the activities there.

There will be a private family service and burial of her ashes at a later date.
