Obituary for Lennart Soderberg

SODERBERG: Lennart A.
February 7, 1946 - September 28, 2022
Lennart Axel Soderberg passed away at Manitou Lodge, Watrous Saskatchewan on Wednesday, September 28th, 2022 . He was predeceased by his son Tage Lennart (infant), his father Arthur Soderberg, his mother Melsey (Johansson), his brothers Henry Soderberg and Verner Soderberg, his sisters Mavis Brust and Janet Hagel; sister-in-law Eileen Soderberg, brothers-in-law George Hagel and Steve Grzenkowicz. He is survived by his daughter Corrina (Dwight) Hayter, his granddaughters Kora (Jamie) Gullacher and their son Rhett, and Daphne (Noah) Buchanan. He is also survived by three siblings; brothers Ralph Soderberg and Butch Soderberg, sister Doreen Grzenkowicz; sisters-in-law Iris Soderberg, Astrid Soderberg, Ruby (Soderberg) Regier; and brother-in-law Fred Brust. He leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces.
Lennart was born during a massive snowstorm near Young, SK on February 7, 1946 when the rail line to Saskatoon was blocked and his mother Melsey bravely boarded the train alone to Simpson, SK where a midwife was available to help with the delivery of number 7 out of 8 children.
Lennart grew up on a farm outside Young and also attended school in Young. He worked as a farm laborer as a young man. Later he worked at the Allan Potash Mine as an apprentice electrician when he was in a car accident that changed his life. He suffered a spinal cord injury and was not supposed to walk again, but miraculously regained limited mobility. However, he was not able to work again.
Lennart had a great sense of humor that lasted his entire life and helped him through the tough times. He had a profound love of his family, his siblings, their spouses and extended family. He was a real people person. He took a genuine interest in all his family's and friends activities and lives. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, camping and bird watching. He enjoyed getting together for a coffee or a rum, playing card games and gossiping with his buddies. He also enjoyed watching movies and sports including his favorites hockey, football and baseball.
Lennart was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease over a decade ago. The progression of that disease, coupled with previous injuries from his car accident led to his entering long-term care. He resided in Manitou Lodge since the beginning of 2018 and although the loss of independence was a low point for him, he remained positive, enjoyed a good visit and good joke. In true Lennart fashion, he made friends with staff and residents.
He was a truly exceptional man and will be deeply missed,
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Young Community Hall, Young, SK on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Private Family Interment will take place in the Young Municipal Cemetery.
