Obituary for Maisie Sutherland

SUTHERLAND: Maisie E.
November 10, 1929 - August 29, 2022
Maisie was born on the family farm SE 22-33-25 W2 in November 1929. She was the 6th of eight children born to Charles and Myrtle Langston. Marion, Keith, Ruth, Lewis, George, Maisie, Roger and Madge. For a brief time the farm house held all nine of the family. Maisie was the last surviving family member.
During her youth Maisie enjoyed life on the farm, helping care for the animals and helping her mom in the house. School started at Eltham, 1 mile south of the farm and continued at Plunkett where she graduated.
A little while later she was invited to return to school as a teacher, qualifying as a teacher’s aide and working at Easterlea country school NW of Plunkett and Farina SW of Plunkett. Work took her to Regina for a while after that.
Maisie had met Hector Sutherland during her working years and on Oct 8,1956 they were married. They settled at the Langston farm, building a second house in the yard and began to make a life for themselves. After many busy years farming they “retired” to Watrous.
Maisie chose to be an optimist; despite the hardships and sadness she experienced that are common in most lives, she always found a way to look at life with optimism, rarely, if ever lazing in bed, knowing there was work to do, people to help or visit, and more life to live.
Some things that brought Maisie much joy were playing music whether to entertain herself or anyone else, caring for the farm animals of all sorts, growing a large garden which provided much food for a hungry family, and keeping in touch with acquaintances and relatives. She enjoyed writing poetry, some of which is published, and was often inspired while working in her garden. She loved reading from her many books and especially the Bible.
Due to failing health, both Maisie and Hector were, remarkably, both admitted to long term care on the same day. So, she was able to live with her husband to the very last day of their married life, something she was always so thankful for.
Surviving Maisie are three sons, Rodney (Lori); David (Jody) and theirs sons, Kale, Tyson and Levi; and Jim (Melony) and their daughters, Kristen Wells (Mitchell) and Lauren King (Jackson), sister-in-law Isabelle Langston and brother-in-law Ken Sutherland (Deloris).
Maisie passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022, full of hope and content with what life had given her. Maisie learned from her Bible study that there is a sure hope for those who have fallen asleep in death. This changed her life in such a positive way and she was moved to dedicate her life to God and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She trusted God to do what he has promised. She could see the time when all living will have the freedom to give to God the praise he deserves and share in the care and beautification of this earth forever
A Memorial Service will take place at Watrous Civic Centre, Watrous, SK on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. Private Family Interment in Plunkett Cemetery.
