Obituary for Dorman Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON: Dorman
September 15, 1929 – March 26, 2021
Dorman Millard Hutchinson was born on September 15, 1929 to Jessie & Millard Hutchinson at Bengough, Saskatchewan.
He was the eldest of 3 children, sister Maxine and sister Melva. He received his education in several rural schools in the Heward area, where he also worked on the farm. He married Norma Anne McKechnie on April 9, 1954 and shortly thereafter, moved to Amazon, Saskatchewan where he took a job as a grain buyer. After working in the elevator for six years, he left to work as a carpenter and then drove fuel truck for the Watrous Co-op. In 1966 he struck out in the business world and purchased the Chalet Pool at Manitou Beach, in partnership with Lionel Sproule, which they operated together for seven years. After the pool was lost in a tragic fire in 1983, he worked at A & S Equipment, repairing and servicing farm machinery. Later he started the Manitou Filter Wash and Upholstery, which he operated with Norma until 2015, when they fully retired. His love of horses and visiting people took him to many horse barns and shows across Western Canada. He spent many happy hours halter breaking, riding, driving and showing horses -- sharing his knowledge with whoever showed an interest. Along with horses he had many other hobbies, which included camping, gardening, woodworking, dancing, oil painting, 4H and curling.
He was predeceased by his parents and both sisters, grandson Terry Gustafson, In-laws Keith & Doris McKechnie, Bob Michel. He is survived by his loving wife Norma, son Brad (Dianne), daughter Wanda (Gordon Gustafson), grandchildren Janelle (Robin) Mowat, Atticus and Beatrix; Kim (Jason) Elles, Brandon and Fenton; Lindsay (BJ) Brataschuk, Brianna, Reese and Brayden; Julie (Curtis) Freeman, Riley; Kyle (Melissa) Hutchinson.
