Obituary for Isaac Driediger

DRIEDIGER: Isaac
January 14, 1926 – November 1, 2020
The death of Isaac Driediger, aged 94 years, occurred peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Manitou Lodge in the Watrous District Health Complex.
Isaac was born in the Poplar Park District, north of Little Manitou Lake to Isaac P. and Anna Driediger, on January 14, 1926. Isaac’s parents farmed in the Poplar Park and Plunkett area for 8 years and then moved to a farm 2miles west of Watrous. He attended Fresh Water School through 8th grade.
Isaac had a number of different jobs in the Watrous area and later farmed with his father. When his parents retired and moved to Saskatoon, Isaac continued farming.
In 1958, Isaac married Maria Klassen and the couple were blessed with two sons. They formed an inseparable team as they accomplished all the hard work that farming requires. Isaac was a devoted husband and father and was committed to the care and nurture of his family. His sons remember a patient father who did not need to raise his voice! Words were not used in excess but his love and caring was evident. Faith was central to Isaac and Maria’s life together. Their relationship with Jesus influenced their everyday lives. They regularly attended Bethany Mennonite Church. Daily devotions and prayer around the breakfast table is one of their endearing legacies. He valued hard work and getting up with the sun. He would often say he got more work done before breakfast than he did for the rest of the day! Isaac had an ability to repair anything with just about nothing and enjoyed taking things apart just to see how things worked. Isaac enjoyed the emergence of seedlings and pampering tree seedlings at the home farm. In his retirement he greatly enjoyed combining and looked forward to what the harvest would bring! He remained a fixture on the farm well into his 90th year, (even though they had retired to a condo in Watrous twenty years ago.) He continued to enjoy tinkering in the shop and offering a helping hand whenever he could. Later in life Isaac and Maria enjoyed activities such as gardening, picking wild Saskatoon berries, and were regularly seen at Manitou Springs Spa enjoying some well-earned rest.
His cheerful greeting and broad smile will be greatly missed.
Isaac was predeceased by his parents Isaac P. and Anna; brothers Peter and George; sisters Tina (Dick) Neufeld and Annie (Jake) Bartel. Isaac is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Maria; sons Martin (Mary) and Arnold (Penny); grandchildren Marcus (Melanie), Caleb, Maria and Lucas and great-granddaughter Callie; sisters Helen, Martha and Erna (George) Wiebe. Due to COVID-19 Restrictions – a Private Family Graveside Service will take place on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Bethany Cemetery.
