Evelyn Shoemaker
January 1922 - June 2020
Evelyn passed away peacefully at Watrous Hospital on June 7, 2020. She was born in Elgin, Manitoba and moved with her family to Plunkett in 1928. Evelyn met and married Otto Shoemaker and stayed in Plunkett where they raised their family. After Otto’s death in 1990, Evelyn lived in her own home until her passing. Mom truly loved her family and friends. Mom was always there for you, to lend a helping hand, or just listen. Mom was extremely involved in the community – A Leader in 4 - H, an Eastern Star member for 50 years, volunteered for the rink kitchen, church organist, ladies aide and seniors group. Evelyn and Otto owned a grocery store for a number of years and she worked as the Plunkett Village secretary. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her sons Jerry (Elaine), their children Corey (Jenn), Kristin (Ryan), Bob (Heather) their son Craig, daughters Carolyn (Carl), their children Tara (Sam), Ryan (Rosie), Cheryl (Fred), and their children Cameron (Crystal), Sherri (Callen), Lisa (Steven), Judy (Mike) and her daughters Rikki (Greg), Jaime, Danielle (Shane), daughter in law Helen (Mel) and her daughters, Tammy (Rick), Anna. Mom had 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren and a large extended family. Mom was predeceased by her husband Otto; sister Elsie Beadle; her parents Walter and Lillian Beadle; son Jim; daughter, Janet Anne (died in infancy); and grandson Robert Lyle (died in infancy). Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Due to COVID 19 restrictions a private family committal will take place in the Plunkett Cemetery. A Celebration of Evelyn's life will be held at a later date at Plunkett Community Hall.

My sympathy to Evelyn's family. She was definitely a Plunkett girl and my mom, Irene Murray, always enjoyed visiting and laughing with Evelyn. They had a lot of fun together in Plunkett.

I want to send condolences to the Shoemaker family on behalf of the Hodges family and especially on behalf of our mother Irene Hodges. As we know Evelyn and Irene were best of friends from the time they were young women. They remained life time friends and neighbours and our two family's had many visits with each other as we grew up. I always remember it being special visiting the Shoemaker family in Plunkett. Seeing and having a visit with Evelyn at Irene's funeral a few years ago was quite special for me. Stay well and we'll all share these special memories of our mothers. Jim Hodges

Whenever I visited with Evelyn on the phone, she would tell me about planning for her 100th birthday, she so wanted to get to 100 but at 98 and still living in her home, how wonderful! Sincere sympathy to all of Evelyn’s family. Wendy
