“I was born on June 6th 1924 in Russia to Jacob and Gertrude (Penner) Regier. Came to Canada with my parents and siblings in 1926. Lived in Manitoba ‘til 1928 and then moved to Saskatchewan and settled in the Watrous rural area. I remember well the house church worship services in early years and then the founding of Bethany Church. I was baptized there by Rev. J.J. Nickel and became an active member. Praise and worship were always very important to me. I attended the Watrous school and had one year of Bible School in Rosthern. I was united in Marriage to Erling F. Bartel and became a farmer’s wife and eventually a mother to seven children. They were the delight of my very busy life. My rural neighbours were very important to me.
I leave behind my children Patricia (Bernie) Schellenberg of Wishart, Tom Bartel of Lockport, Man., Jennifer (Paul) Schroeder of Saskatoon, John ( Denise) Bartel of Lanigan, Trudy Bartel of Saskatoon, Perry Bartel of Elmira, Ont., Peggy Bartel of Waldheim, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren whom I love dearly. I desire to see you all where I have gone to live in that place that is prepared for me by Jesus my Redeemer.
I also leave behind a sister-in-law Doris Regier and a brother -in -law Edgar Bartel and his wife Helen.
I was predeceased by my parents, my husband Erling and my daughter-in-law Gloria. I was also predeceased by my brothers John, Isaac, and his wife Maria, Jacob and his wife Beth, my sister Gertrude, my parents-in-law Cornelius and Marie Bartel, sisters-in-law Naomi Gagne, Lottie Ewert, Eunice Stobbe and Bonnie Smith, and brother-in-law Jacob Bartel.
Rejoice with me for I have gone home!”
Our mother is remembered for her gracious hospitality and generous portions of home cooked meals for her guests. She was dedicated to friendships through frequent telephone conversations, faithful letter writing and personal visits as often as she could. She kept large gardens, read books until her very last days and was always very competitive playing games like Scrabble, Yahtzee, and Go Fish. On the farm she would run the equipment alongside Erling as needed, and in her retirement years she volunteered at the Thrift Store for as long as her health permitted. She loved her church, and stayed as active and involved as she could over all her years
The Memorial Service will be held in North Star Mennonite Church Drake SK on Saturday, January 25th, 2020 at 2:00 pm . Visitation and Viewing for family and friends will take place at Fotheringham's Funeral Chapel in Watrous on Saturday January 25th from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. Family Interment will follow in North Star Cemetery .
