Obituary for Gerry Meger

MEGER:Gerry
June 19, 1943 – July 19, 2019
The death of Mr. Gerry Meger, aged 76 years, occurred at Watrous, on July 19, 2019. Gerry was born on June 19, 1943 in Sinnett Saskatchewan third child of Fred and Zita Meger and spent the majority of his childhood in the Sinnett/Jansen area. He worked closely first with his father and then later driving truck with his uncle throughout Canada and the U.S. It was on one such time working away with his father that he met Jenny in Bonnyville AB. On September 12, 1968 Jenny and Gerry got married. They moved to Watrous, SK and operated the only bar in town with his mother and father. In 1973 they had one child Cyndi. Throughout the years Gerry worked as a butcher for Model Meats, IGA and Shop rite foods. He also worked at Watrous Co-op and at Watrous Housing Authority before his retirement in 2008. Gerry loved woodworking, often creating items for family. He loved being able to take a plain piece of wood and turn it into something unique. Gerry was also a fixer, tinkering with old things making them work again. His life was quiet and he enjoyed it that way, always opting for the company of a few over the bustle of many. His favourite thing in his late years was the daily visits with his grandchildren. Gerry was predeceased by his wife Jenny; parents Fred and Zita; and brother Marvin. He is survived by his daughter Cyndi (Len) Dreger; grandchildren Seth, Chloe, Xander and Jax; and siblings Miriam, Ron, Sylvia, Jean, and Colleen. A Private Interment will be held at Watrous Cemetery. For those so wishing donations to the Watrous Palliative Care Fund would be appreciated.
