Obituary for Alexander "Alex" Patryluk

Alexander "Alex" Patryluk
PATRYLUK: Alexander 1924 - 2015
Alex Patryluk, aged 91 years and life long resident of Regina, passed away peacefully at the General Hospital on Wednesday Sept. 23rd with his loving wife of 64 years, Olyne, by his side. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Helen and infant brother. Alex is survived by his loving family - his wife Olyne (nee: Owadiuk); sons, Tery (Heather) and Bob of Regina; daughter Marianne (Earl) Mosewich, Colesdale Park, SK; 7 grandchildren, Amber Mosewich, Adelaide, Australia, Sienna (James) Huck, Regina, Preston (Kirbie) Mosewich, Martensville, SK, Christie (Matt) Harris, Regina, Shawna (Rav) Lal, Noosa, Australia, Bryce and Troy Patryluk of Regina; and 5 great grandchildren, Carson and Pierce Huck, Logan Harris, and Jaidan and Ashton Lal. Alex is also survived by his brother William (Irene) Patryluk of Surrey, BC, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In his younger years, Alex was a Western Canada Gymnastics Champ and long time member of the YMCA. He was an avid Rider fan and longtime season ticket and share holder. He served in the R.C.A.F and was a Regina Flying Club member. He worked for Sask. Gov. Treasury Dept., Westinghouse before purchasing the Leland Hotel in Wolseley and later the Ehrle Hotel, Regina Hotel, Country Squire in Fort Qu’Appelle and the Coronach Motel. He was the 1st ambassador of the Mosaic Kiev Pavilion and life long member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, long time choir member, T.Y.C. Men’s Club member and various committees, founding member of the Orthodox Auditorium and instrumental in formation of Selo Gardens Senior Complex. He was awarded the Provincial Nation Builders Award for his endless hours of work for the Ukrainian community and made an honorary member by the Ukrainian Society of Prosvieta.

More importantly than all that he did was who he was; his truly unique character resonated. Whether at the Ehrle Hotel on a Friday night, calling BINGO, weddings and functions at the hall and church, teasing his grandkids or Olyne, he lived life to the fullest. He travelled the world and taught all the values of faith and family.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday September 28th at the Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Orthodox Church at 10:00 a.m., conducted by Rev. Michael Maranchuk. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Prayers will be held on Sunday September 27th at 7:00 p.m at the church.
