Obituary for Alvin Thorleif Olson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin on Monday, November 5, 2012 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. Dad was born on the family farm May 11, 1925. He attended Lyndhurst School and was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Church. Alvin took over the farming operation when his mom and dad moved off the farm to Young. Dad met the love of his life Viola Reid from the Renown Area. They were married June 27, 1946. Together they raised two boys and four girls. Dad enjoyed all sports, especially curling at the Southwest Curling Rink. Dad also had a great ear for music and entertained family and friends on the piano and guitar. Besides farming dad also drove school bus and worked at Noranda Potash mine. Dad had a great love for his family, the land and the North Country. Mom and dad have enjoyed several months a year at their cabin at Lower Fishing Lake for over 35 years. Dad is predeceased by his parents, one brother, two sisters and two grandsons. He is survived by his loving wife Viola Olson of 66 years; sons Richard (Irene) and Olaf; daughters Linda (Ron), Ellen (Gordon), Anita, Leona (Rob), eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister.
