Obituary for Hector Sutherland

SUTHERLAND: Hector

May 12, 1929 – June 17, 2019

With great sadness we announce the passing of Hector Sutherland at Manitou Lodge, Watrous on June 17, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maisie; sons Rodney (Lori), David (Jody) and Jim (Melony); grandsons Kale, Tyson, Levi; granddaughters Kristen and Lauren; brother Ken (Deloris) and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Born in 1929 on the family farm to Hugh and Mae, Hector attended grade school at Pilot Grove country school. Later he went to get training in arc welding, a skill which he used a great deal throughout his farming career. He began farming at home with his family, and after marrying began farming the land Maisie had grown up on, until he retired. He had a land clearing business for many years.

Hector loved hunting, making many trips with his brother Ken to various areas of the province to hunt antelope and mule deer. He loved curling, playing in Plunkett and Watrous clubs and also countless bonspiels. And he loved fishing, making trips to the northern lakes. Hector and Maisie had the opportunity to travel overseas, visiting New Zealand and Hawaii.

He loved the land and farming. He cared deeply for his family, relatives and friends. Even though a quiet man, his interest in and respect for others was unmistakable. He will be missed by all.

A Memorial Reception will be held at the Watrous Civic Centre, Watrous, SK on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Plunkett Cemetery at a later date.
