Obituary for Audrey Thelma Rae Abrey (French)

Audrey Thelma Rae Abrey (French) passed away peacefully August 19, 2018 at the Long Lake Valley Integrated Facility in Imperial, SK.
Rae was born on September 19, 1921 in Strasbourg, SK. to Rueben and Mable French. The family moved to Pleasantdale in 1921 where she was raised with her 5 siblings until the age of 20 when she moved to Simpson. Rae started work at the Grant Hotel where she met the love of your life George Abrey. George and Rae were married on June24, 1942 and had 5 beautiful children; Gail, Barbara, Lorne, Jerry and Brenda. Rae and George farmed together for many years, sharing their love for the outdoors. Many different camping and fishing trips were had and along with those trips came a lot of laughs and endless stories. Many of Rae’s hours were spent crocheting and knitting, making countless afghans, doyleys, quilts, etc. that all of her grandchildren still use and cherish to this day. Rae was born with a green thumb and could grow the most beautiful flowers and garden with little to no effort. Rae loved spending her time with friends and loved ones and will be deeply missed by all.
Rae is predeceased by her parents Rueben and Mable French, her 5 siblings, husband George Abrey, sons Lorne and Jerry Abrey, son-in-laws Don Janzen and Don Burkitt, and daughter-in-law Geraldine Abrey.
Rae is survived by her children Gail Burkitt (Gilbert), Barb Potts (Brian), Brenda Janzen (Dave McIntosh), daughter-in-law Gail Abrey, grandchildren Deanie McKay (Dale), Duane Burkitt (Cathy), Doug Burkitt (Cora), Rodney Burkitt (Rhonda), Sharon Gust (Daryl Vanthuyne), Jim Burkitt (Shannon), David Burkitt (Myra Back), Donna Bartel (Dean), Fran Potts, Darren Potts (Lehanne), Kelly Abrey (Rachel), Kim Walters (Neil), Kenneth Abrey (Jodi), Karaley Abrey, Lana Abrey (Randy Berg), Jay Abrey (Carrie Rossman), Kevin Janzen, Jody Janzen (Jay), 39 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held in Simpson Community Hall on Friday, August 24th, 2018 at 2:00 pm . Interment will take place in Simpson Cemetery . For online condolences, tributes or to make a donation in her memory please visit fotheringham-mcdougall.com
