Dorothy Edna Schaffel passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at the Saskatoon Royal University Hospital at the age of 87 years on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Dorothy was born November 21, 1930, in Harris, Saskatchewan. She was the second of three daughters, to late Arnold and Gertie Eytcheson. After graduating from Watrous High School in 1947, she worked at Walsh’s Store and in later years at Home Hardware. She met the love of her life, John Schaffel, and was married October 19, 1949. They spent their entire married life in Watrous where they raised their three children. Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family. She was always there to provide support and love. She took great pleasure keeping in touch with everyone to hear of their activities and share in their successes. She enjoyed endless hours of reading and playing cards while visiting with family and friends. Her quiet strength and determination were inspirational, especially when she struggled with arthritis in her later years. Her legacy will live on with her loved ones in the memories that they will cherish. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ken (Donita) Schaffel, Donna (Garry) Jackson, and Dave (Donna) Schaffel. Dorothy will also be fondly remembered by her five grandchildren, Kim (Tim), Ian (Jenny), and Bryan (Allison), Mark (Tammy), and Dallas (Candace); by her eleven great-grandchildren, Emma, Gregg, Josh, Greta, Joey, Isla, Ryley, Devin, Jaiden, Ariana, and Kieron; by her sister Delilah (Murray) Westby; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, John, sister Deloris King, and brother-in-laws Herman Gegner and Wayne King. Mass, in memory of Dorothy, will be held on Monday, January 22, at 2:00pm., at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Richard Meid, OSB officiating. Interment will follow at the Watrous Cemetery. Those who desire to may make memorial donations in memory of Dorothy to the Arthritis Society.
