Obituary for Waldemor "Wally" Penner

Waldemor "Wally" Penner
Waldemor (Wally) was born August 11, 1936 to Theodore and Hazel Penner. He had one brother Edward (Eddy). They lived on a farm 1½ miles north west of Nokomis. Wally took all his schooling in Nokomis, up to grade eight. Then he took over running the farm, as his dad was not too well. Wally raised cattle and pigs. They also had chickens and ducks. Of all the farm animals, he loved his dog, Sport, the most. Wally also grew crops of wheat, oats and barley; and made lots of hay every year. Wally loved music and played in the local band, led by Ted Klassen. Wally played the trumpet. Some of the places they played were at the Regina Exhibition; in front of the Chalet Pool at Manitou Beach; at Williston, North Dakota and of course in Nokomis. In between farming, Wally helped build the U.G.G. elevator in town and helped Adolf Bart build an elevator on his farm. In winter, Wally ran the snowplow for their snow club. Wally married Lenora Boese on March 18, 1967. On the day of their wedding, Wally had to plow the roads so they could get out to the highway. And by noon it had turned so nice, it was starting to melt. Wally and Lenora had two children; Richard (Charmaine) and Roxane (Dale); and five grandchildren, Brittany (Justin), Dustin Bonsan and Liam, London and Kinley Penner. Another of Wally’s interests was cooking. When Lenora was working, often on a Sunday, he would invite company over and have supper all ready when she came home from work. Supper would be roast chicken, potatoes, gravy, vegetables and desert, maybe homemade pie or cake, all which he made. Wally really enjoyed cooking and would have liked to have had a café. Wally was a member of the Nokomis Baptist Church and in his youth he took a very active part in their youth program. He also belonged to several clubs in Regina, like the German Club and Austrian Club. He enjoyed listening to their music. After Eddy was unable to farm and had moved into town, it was hard for Wally to give up farming. When Eddy passed away, it seemed like all Wally’s interests were gone. Not being able to hear well, made things more difficult for him. Wally passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Nokomis Health Centre.
